The Loughborough Group for People with Disabilities was started in 1979. We have recently celebrated our 30th Anniversary and have gone from strength to strength.
The family ethos the group portrays to all welcomes newcomers with a physical and/or learning disability especially from the Catholic faith where we are strongly supported but any new members are always warmly welcomed.

Loughborough continues with an active programme of monthly club nights, including a barbeque at Marie's house in July which Fr Frank was able to attend. Our major focus this year was preparing to host the Faith & Light International Conference at Leeds Trinity University, where 180 delegates from 80 countries came together for a week of planning, reflection, prayer, and celebration. The Loughborough group formed the main part of the hosting team, looking after the delegates, preparing rooms and services, organising the multi-language headphones for each session, and even serving at meal tables. The Thursday afternoon fiesta was open to communities from all over UK, and it was great to see 'Spanned' represented, and an impromptu re-union of people who have been so instrumental in forming F&L in this country over many years - Fr Frank, Fr Donal Lucey, Fr Simon Giles, Fr Aidan Turner, Maurice Bartley, Pat & Kevin Keating, Jane Robinson, to name but a few. This conference occurs once every five years, in different countries each time, and the organisers were truly impressed at the welcome and support they experienced. We are n ow preparing our Autumn events, which will include our annual 'shoe box filling' night for the Christmas Child appeal, a visit to Walsingham (with Faith & Light), and an International theme night to be prepared by our Polish group members, who are planning to involve our Italian and Iraqi members too! The group has also been invited to Paul Gilliver's 40th birthday celebration, and to a house-warming party for Cathie Needham who wants to thank the group for being her Removals Team earlier this year! And then Christmas.....!
